Day 2 - Salinas Grandes Salt Flat and Purmamarca
After breakfast, we begin our journey through some of the most spectacular landscapes of northwestern Argentina. The route follows the scenic Quebrada del Toro, running parallel to sections of the famous Train to the Clouds railway, one of the highest railways in the world. Along the way, we will admire dramatic mountain scenery, small rural settlements, and impressive engineering works that are part of this historic railway line.
The road gradually ascends through the Andes until reaching the high-altitude town of San Antonio de los Cobres, located at 4,080 meters above sea level. Here we will make a stop for lunch, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy some typical regional dishes and experience the atmosphere of this traditional Andean village.
After lunch, we continue our journey along Route 40, heading toward the breathtaking Salinas Grandes, an immense salt flat located on the border between the provinces of Salta and Jujuy. Time will be available to walk across the dazzling white salt crust, take photographs, and admire the striking contrast between the bright salt flats and the surrounding mountains.
Later, we begin the descent along the spectacular Cuesta de Lipán, a winding mountain road that offers magnificent views of the surrounding valleys. With a bit of luck, it is also possible to spot Andean condors soaring above the cliffs.
Our next stop is the picturesque village of Purmamarca, famous for the stunning Hill of Seven Colors, whose vibrant mineral layers create one of the most iconic landscapes in northern Argentina. After spending some time exploring the village and enjoying the views, we begin our return journey.
By the late afternoon, we arrive back in Salta city, bringing to an end a memorable day of exploration through the high Andes.

Day 4 - San Pedro de Atacama - Altiplanic Lagoons
After breakfast, we depart from San Pedro de Atacama and begin our journey toward the stunning landscapes of the Atacama Altiplano. This full-day excursion takes us deep into the Los Flamencos National Reserve, an area known for its dramatic scenery, high-altitude ecosystems, and remarkable wildlife.
As we leave the oasis of San Pedro behind, the road gradually climbs through the Toconao Valley, passing through the charming village of Toconao, famous for its traditional architecture built from volcanic stone and its peaceful desert surroundings. We then continue toward the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile, where we stop at Laguna Chaxa, one of the most important habitats for flamingos in the region. Here you will have the opportunity to observe several species of flamingos and other Andean birds in their natural environment, set against the vast white salt crust and the dramatic backdrop of surrounding volcanoes.
The journey continues as we ascend higher into the Andean plateau, reaching elevations of more than 4,000 meters above sea level. Along the way, we pass through small highland villages and wetlands where llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas can often be seen grazing.
Our main destination is the breathtaking Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons, two deep blue high-altitude lagoons located at the foot of the Miscanti and Miñiques volcanoes. Surrounded by mountains, volcanic formations, and the silence of the Altiplano, these lagoons offer one of the most spectacular landscapes in northern Chile. The intense blue waters contrast beautifully with the golden grasses of the highland plains and the snow-capped peaks in the distance.
During the visit, there will be time to walk along designated paths, take photographs, and appreciate the unique beauty and tranquility of this remote Andean environment.
After enjoying this extraordinary setting, we begin our return journey to San Pedro de Atacama, descending through the dramatic desert landscapes and arriving back in town in the afternoon.

First thing we’ll do once we arrive is to go to the geothermal field located in the mountain range of Los Andes. Early in the morning this place has an amazing steamy activity because of the high temperatures that are coming up from the craters. The boiling water, the huge columns on steam and the water that runs underneath the surface makes this an unforgettable experience.
Here we will have breakfast, and then we’ll take a walk and those who want to might take a bath in the warm water (between 25ºC and 30ºC) near the geysers.
